Storm-Damaged Roof? Your Insurance May Owe You a New One.
West Michigan takes a beating: 60 to 70+ mph winds, hail, falling limbs. If a storm has rolled through Muskegon, Whitehall, or anywhere along the lakeshore, your roof may have damage you can’t see from the ground: lifted shingles that let water in, hail bruises that shorten shingle life, cracked flashing and vents.
Here’s what most homeowners don’t know: wind and hail damage is typically covered by your homeowners insurance, but there’s a window to file, and waiting can cost you the coverage.
How the process works with us
- Free storm inspection. We get on the roof, photograph every bit of damage, and tell you honestly whether the damage looks worth a claim. (If it doesn’t, we’ll tell you that too.)
- We document everything: photos, measurements, and a detailed scope of work, so you walk into your claim with proof in hand. You’re never guessing what’s up there.
- We’re by your side through the whole claim process, including meeting the adjuster at your home when they inspect.
- We do the work: a licensed, insured local crew.
After any storm, check for these from the ground (don’t climb)
- Shingles or shingle pieces in the yard
- Granules piling in gutters and downspouts
- Dented gutters, vents, or flashing
- Lifted or “flapping” shingle edges
Common questions about storm damage claims
Will filing a claim raise my insurance rates?
Storm damage is typically treated as an “act of God” claim, which insurers handle differently than at-fault claims. Every policy is different. Your agent can tell you exactly how yours treats weather claims. What’s certain is that unrepaired storm damage gets more expensive the longer it sits.
How long do I have to file after a storm?
Policies set their own windows, commonly six months to a year from the storm date. The safest move is documenting damage as soon as possible after the storm, which is exactly what the free inspection does.
What if the inspection finds no real damage?
Then we tell you that, show you the photos, and you’ve lost nothing. An honest “you’re fine” is part of the free inspection. We’d rather tell you the truth than push a claim that isn’t there.
